Descriptive Video Works
Descriptive Video Works is one of the world’s leading audio description companies, working with Netflix, Apple, Disney, Ubisoft, Sony, Amazon, CBC and others to make film, television and games accessible to blind and visually impaired audiences.
Accessibility placed clarity at the centre of the identity. The wordmark is direct, highly legible and deliberately free of unnecessary ornamentation, supported by a bold but tightly controlled colour palette. Braille was also incorporated as a fundamental part of the brand, rather than an afterthought.
The DVW monogram brings the service itself into the identity, symbolizing a soundwave moving towards the listener’s ear.
The same logic extends into the secondary brand elements, such as a circular form representing inclusion, creating a versatile graphic language without sacrificing simplicity.
The goal was to create an identity with the clarity and authority required to operate behind the scenes with some of the world’s largest entertainment companies, while still belonging to an industry built around creativity and culture. The resulting system can be quiet, precise and corporate when required, or bold and expressive without ever losing its underlying clarity.
Working with Simon on our rebrand was an enriching and rewarding experience. We brought our own list of must-haves to the table, which he incorporated carefully and thoughtfully — but Simon also took things further, introducing unique creative concepts that greatly elevated the the entire identity. We couldn’t be happier with the result.
